P600 Does the Choc-O… In the Dark!
December 17, 2025 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Master the art of night navigation and gain confidence after dark!
The Choc-O is a navigation challenge on the Long Mynd, organised by Wrekin Orienteers each Christmas.
The aim is to navigate around a set of control points, each of which is a white post with the grid reference and description for the next point on the course.
Don’t worry, we’ll tackle it as a team, and learn some navigational tips and tricks along the way!
At the last control you will find a tin of goodies. Enjoy, leave a message in the book, reseal and hide the sack!
We’ll aim to complete the Choc-O Short Course – Will we get to the end and find the Chocolates?

Ever been caught out after dark on a walk or fancy exploring at night? Navigating at night adds another level of complexity, and what may be straightforward in daylight is less so after dark.
The NNAS Night Owl is a practical, hands-on course designed by the NNAS’s experienced team of navigators to introduce you to some of the techniques to make you a confident and effective night navigator.
The course is run over a four-hour period with at least two-hours in low light conditions.
You’ll cover speed, timing, night-time pacing, contours and relocation along with various navigation strategies that will help you improve the accuracy of your navigation.
As you would expect from an NNAS course, the NNAS Night Owl will be taught by suitably qualified and experienced tutors.
It is expected that attendees will have some experience of navigation before attending such as NNAS Bronze Navigator or above.
For the full syllabus of the Night Owl National Navigation Award see NNAS Website:
A course fee is paid to the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) on your behalf. Successful candidates will receive a digital certificate at the end of the course.
